First Art-o-matŪ machine to be installed in the State of Nebraska!

Next week, we'll be installing a machine at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at 313 North 13th Street. I (Clark) will be doing a public lecture on Thursday, October 8th at 6:30pm in Room 15 in Richards Hall. However, I'll be around most of the week to work with students and communicate how local/statewide artists can be involved.

This will be an exciting installation for the Art-o-matŪ. It is always nice to install a machine in a community which is new to our project. But, to locate a host in a state which has never had a machine always makes us proud. This fully refurbished/restored machine was originally created for the 1999 Three Rivers Arts festival in Pittsburgh as part of four works exhibited in the historic Point State Park. It was the first machine to include artists outside of our original core group of artists from North Carolina. This was a major step for our project and we here at AIC feel that it is fitting that this machine will now find a home in an area of the country which is new to the Art-o-matŪ project.

We are very happy that the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln has taken us under their wing.

We here at A.I.C fully endorse this unsolicited blog entry.

Especially the "join & support" part in the Sunday, October 21, 2007 entry at the botttom of the page. ;) Things are going well and we could use a few new artists. Please spread the word to any artist who may dig what we do.

Pics from the Chambers Art-o-matŪ Opening

Hi All

Here are some pics from the opening at the Chambers. Since I am always running around or babbling during installations, my pics are after the fact. Laura Gentry drove 4 hours to attend!

Earlier on the afternoon of the 17th, I gave a slide talk to about 100+ students at the The Art Institutes International Minnesota. The space where we meet was street level, floor to ceiling glass. Out of nowhere some punk teenager slammed on the glass and yelled something. So, he got a rise out of everyone. Well, we got back to business and within a few minutes, the president of the school had tracked the kid from down the street and drug him in by his ear to apologize. I accepted while holding back laughter.

But, the Chambers is worth a stop if you are in Minneapolis. The art is top notch. The food is super. The people are very friendly.

Chambers Art-o-matŪ Opening This Thursday

Hi All

If you live near or are visting the Twin Cities this week, please come out and help us officially kick off our first ever machine in Minnesota. The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at Chambers hotel, 901 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, Minn.

I (Clark) will be doing a slide talk for the general public. Afterwards, artists interested in being involved are invited to stick around and "geek out". AKA: we can throw around art concepts, cover how to create work to meet our guidelines and discuss the best way to make personal connections with people who buy art from our machines.

Pulled from a recent press release: "The Burnet Gallery is located in Chambers, a luxury art hotel featuring more than 200 pieces of original contemporary art throughout the public areas as well as the hotel’s 60 guest rooms. The hotel offers a unique combination of art, culinary, design and a true boutique hotel experience." To summarize, the place is too cool for school.

We are very happy the Chambers took our project under their wing.
